Topic: Don’t Feed the Elephant!  Overcoming the Art of Avoidance to Build Powerful Partnerships

We can all agree that we want to work on teams where we feel safe, do work that matters, and make a positive impact. Yet sometimes we are stifled by known problems impacting our success that no one wants to acknowledge. Congratulations, we have an elephant in the room!

In this session, we will explore how we can address the true elephant in the room: avoidance of what created it in the first place.

Gain the knowledge, specific strategies, and confidence to free elephants by learning:

• Individual and group behaviors that signal an elephant is known / being avoided

• The most common “elephant types” and the behaviors that create them

• Key strategies and language to free elephants using the Curiosity First approach

• Specific strategies for how to hold steady during uncomfortable conversations

About the Speaker

Sarah completed her degree in theater performance and education and then accepted her first job in insurance.  She trained new hires for many years and then managed teams consisting of first-time employees as well as mid-career.  She then went back to school for her master’s degree in Leadership Development at Drake University.  This is where she truly fell in love with leadership studies and understanding the profound impact leaders have on the lives around them.

The rest is history.

Sarah continues to push her own leadership practices and deepens her learning through research, certifications, experiences, books, classes, conferences, and an inspiring network of people.  This is Sarah’s journey (at least the abridged version) of how this chatty, curious girl found her voice on the stage and her calling in the cubicles.  What’s your story?
